We Have Answers!

We have put together a list of questions and answers you may have, as well as some resources for you to help you get started on your path to your first dance! We aim to make the process seamless for you!

Step-By-Step Guide to Your Dance
Dancing your first dance should be a pleasurable experience, not one filled with anxiety. Use these tips to get you and your fiance(e) off on the right foot. And if you're unsure as to where to start - we're here to help!

STEP 1: CHOOSING A SONG

- Choose a danceable song with a consistent beat, we have suggestions if needed
- Keep your song 2-3 minutes long - you can ask the DJ to fade the song out or your song can be edited and shortened in advance
- Think about the meaning of what this first dance will have for you as a couple:
    - Does it mark a special moment in your dating history?
    - Is it the beginning of a new life?
    - Is it a long-time friendship?
    - Is it describing your love story?
    - Is it celebrating a long-awaited moment?
- Consider the meaning of the lyrics:
    - Certain songs are very beautiful and romantic, yet their tone may not be appropriate for the occassion. Example: "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion mourns a lost lover, a theme not appropriate for a wedding.

STEP 2: DEVELOP CHOREOGRAPHY FOR YOUR SONG

- Think about your entrance and exit on the dance floor
- Select a dance style(rumba, waltz, etc.) appropriate to your music tempo and attire
- Think about the level of dance skill and complexity with which you are comfortable
- Think about the size of your dance floor-how much space do you have to work with?
- What is the main pose you wish to dance in:
    - A loving embrace?
    - Fun and flirty spins?
    - Side by side?
    - Apart from each other, trying to outdo one another?
    - Pick one style, or incorporate a variety of moves for fun!
- Consider your style as a couple; are you retro, classic, passionate or funky?
- Consider your wedding theme and style:
    - is it a traditional evening affair?
    - is it a small family event?
    - is it a relaxed beach atmosphere?
    - is it a chic urban bash?
- Design your dance to be a part of your theme & to reflect your unique personality!
- Practice the beginning and ending to your dance
- Practice leading and following (co-ordinate your moves with each other)
- Work on basic steps and become familiar with your music
- Practice the special moves you definitely want to incorporate in your choreography
- Practice between lessons at home
- Have a "dress" rehearsal:
    - Wear the shoes you will wear at the wedding
    - Grooms: practice dancing in a suit or tux
    - Brides: if possible, practice dancing in your gown, to become comfortable with the elaborate skirt and petticoat
- Be prepared and provide your bandleader or DJ with clear instructions regarding volume, tempo, and length of your dance

THE FIRST DANCE (Gasp!)

- Focus on each other
- Don't worry about mistakes - your guests don't know what you planned, so whatever happens: act like it's supposed to occur
- Relax and have fun.

Remember the main objective of your first dance is to celebrate your love for each other and the beginning of your new life together. Our job is to work with you to make it happen as seamlessly and stress-free as possible.
